Description
Dichloran 18% Glycerol Agar (DG18 Agar) is a medium for the enumeration of osmophilic yeasts and xerophilic molds in food, animal products and environmental samples with a water activity of less than or equal to 0.95 by a colony count technique.
DG18 agar is not suitable for the analysis of samples with a water activity of less than or equal to 0.60.
DG18 agar contains the antifungal agent dichloran, which restricts the spreading of fast growing fungi and restricts the colony size of other genera making colony counting an easier task.
Tip: To sample air in a dry environment, use DG18 agar. To sample air in a wet environment use MEA (Malt extract agar). To increase recovery of different types of molds in the air use both DG18 agar and MEA.
Highly recommended for collection of xerophilic molds and yeasts (some species of Aspergillus (ie, Aspergillus versicolor), Penicillium, Wallemia, etc)
